Population

Valley County ranks 30th among Idaho’s 44 counties in population, but is 5th largest in total area. The population of Valley County increased steadily until 1997 when the population started to taper down. Over the decade, the population grew by 478 individuals from a 1993 population of 7,265 to a 2003 population of 7,743. The population growth rate of 6.6 percent since 1993 is below the statewide growth rate of 23.2 percent for the same period. The largest cities in Valley County are McCall, Cascade, and Donnelly, with populations of 2,084, 997, and 138, respectively, according to the 2000 Census. The region supports a large number of seasonal residents who have enough discretionary income to have second or vacation homes.
